<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1787207377647779728957_3398218847051305_4066805144272213395_n.jpeg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Hongsheng was a POGO inside the Baofu compound in Bamban, Tarlac and was raided in February 2024 for alleged crypto scam operations. <em>Bureau of Internal Revenue Philippines﻿/Facebook</em></span></span></span>MANILA — The Bureau of Internal Revenue announced Thursday it had filed a P2.2-billion tax evasion case against offshore gaming firm Hongsheng Gaming Technology, Inc.</div><p>In a statement, the BIR said that Hongsheng had substantially underdeclared its income, failed to declare the correct VAT liabilities for several taxable quarters, and failed to withhold and remit the required final withholding tax for its foreign employees.</p><p>It added that it found significant discrepancies between Hongsheng&#x27;s declared revenues and information reflected in official records, resulting in deficiency income tax, VAT, and final withholding tax liabilities totaling P2,227,759,311.21.</p><p>The case was filed with the Department of Justice on August 6.</p><p>The BIR probe covered taxable year 2021 to 2023 or when Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) were still legal in the country. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/7/22/marcos-jr-orders-pogos-to-cease-operations-by-end-of-year-1603">outlawed POGO operations</a> in 2024.</p><p>Hongsheng was a POGO inside the Baofu compound in Bamban, Tarlac, and <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/6/3/ombudsman-suspends-bamban-mayor-guo-2-others-over-raps-filed-by-dilg-1531">was raided in February 2024</a> for alleged crypto scam operations.</p><p>&quot;No business should be able to operate in the Philippines, earn income here, and evade the taxes required by law.
