MANILA — The Visayas grid will still be on Red and Yellow Alerts on Tuesday, August 27.The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the schedule is as follows:Red Alert 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.Yellow Alert 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. 8 p.m. - 9 p.m.The NGCP said available grid capacity is 2,344 MW, but peak demand might reach 2,452 MW.A red alert status means power outages can be expected as power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulatory requirements. A yellow alert, meanwhile, means power outages are likely as plants are producing less than the grid&#x27;s contingency requirement. The agency said three of Visayas&#x27; large coal power plants, Therma Visayas Inc. 1 and 2 and KEPCO SPC Power Corporation 1, are out. Power imports from Mindanao are also lower due to higher demand there.The NGCP said 9 plants have been out since August, while 1 plant has been out since July. Three have been out since June, 7 since May, and one since March.The Department of Energy has said that power consumers in Visayas and Mindanao will face higher electricity rates as these areas’ power grids continue to grapple with supply shortages.
