MANILA -- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) sees inflation settling between 5.5 and 6.5 percent in August.The BSP said higher rice, vegetable, fruit, fish, and domestic fuel prices may have kept inflation up. The higher food prices, in particular, are &quot;partly due to unfavorable weather conditions.&quot;The central bank noted, however, that lower meat prices and electricity rates and the peso&#x27;s appreciation may have helped mitigate rising food prices.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/8/10/meralco-power-rates-dip-by-p0-04-kwh-in-august-1120" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Meralco power rates dip by P0.04/kWh in August</a></div>Philippine inflation slowed to <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/8/5/inflation-slows-to-6-2-percent-in-july-0907" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">6.2 percent</a> in July from 6.8 percent in June. This is also already a slowdown from the 7.2 percent in April, but still among the highest numbers seen in recent years.The BSP raised interest rates by 25 basis points to 5 percent in its Thursday policy meeting, noting that oil prices remain volatile despite easing headline inflation.The official August inflation figures are set to be released on Friday, Sept. 4.
