ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The delayed release of license plates to vehicle owners could be a distribution problem on the dealers&#x27; end, the Land Transportation Office said as it asserted that it has eliminated its backlog of official plates.</p><p>The LTO made the statement as it implements a crackdown on the use of improvised and temporary plates sold on online shopping platforms.</p><p>&quot;In some cases, dealers have already received the license plates but did not inform the registered owners that they were ready for release,&quot; LTO told ABS-CBN News.</p><p>&quot;There are also cases where motorists are told that the dealer has not received their license plates, even though the LTO has already released them.&quot;</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>HOW PLATES REACH OWNERS</strong></div><p>The LTO said license plates are delivered to its central office in Quezon City before being sent out to regional offices, which then distribute them to district offices.</p><p>The district offices turn over the plates to dealers&#x27; representatives, who have to sign receipts for them. These serve as proof that the plates have already been turned over.</p><p>&quot;[T]he subsequent release to the registered owner is the dealer’s responsibility,&quot; LTO said.</p><p>In an online exchange last week, Kapatiran sa Dalawang Gulong Secretary General Don Pangan said the <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/8/28/lto-must-address-issues-with-license-plate-release-before-crackdown-riders-org-1815">delayed release of plates remains a common issue for motorcycle riders</a>.</p><p>&quot;Dapat nilang ma-resolba ang problema ng delayed na pagre-release ng mga dealers ng plaka sa mga bagong bili,&quot; he said.</p><p>(The problem of the delayed release of plates for new vehicles should be resolved.) </p><p>Pangan also said the LTO must make sure official plates have already reached vehicle owners before it penalizes the use of improvised and temporary plates.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>STILL NO PLATE?</strong></div><p>The LTO&#x27;s communications office said vehicle owners should coordinate with their dealer or the nearest LTO branch to check on the status of their license plates.</p><p>Motorists in Metro Manila may also check searchable trackers on<a href="https://www.ltoncr.com/#"> the LTO National Capital Region&#x27;s website</a>.</p><p>If the plates have already been turned over to dealers but they refuse or fail to release them, vehicle owners can submit a report through the LTO&#x27;s official Facebook page, the I-Report Mo Kay LTO Chief Facebook page or <a href="https://ireportmokayltochief.ph/">website</a>.</p><p>&quot;The LTO will verify the concern and coordinate with the concerned dealer regarding the release of the license plates,&quot; its communications office said.</p><p>LTO announced the crackdown after a multimillion-peso Porsche sports car linked to an actor and a businessman was found to be <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/8/14/lto-issues-show-cause-order-against-actor-businessman-over-alleged-fake-supercar-plate-1130">using a fake plate that did not match its actual registration</a>.  <strong>— Jonathan de Santos, ABS-CBN News</strong></p>
