<div><br/></div><p>MANILA — The peso hit a new record low of P62.565 against the dollar on Wednesday, September 2.</p><p>The peso earlier hit an all-time low of P62.69 against the greenback in intraday trading, before clawing back to P62.565 at the close of trade.</p><p>The peso previously closed at a record low of <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/9/1/peso-sinks-to-new-historic-low-of-p62-40-vs-dollar-1640" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">P62.40 against $1</a> on Tuesday, September 1.</p><p>Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor had earlier said that the central bank was monitoring the foreign exchange market, after the currency breached the P62 barrier last Friday. The peso sank to <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/8/28/peso-opens-at-p62-05-vs-dollar-on-friday-0954" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">P62.265</a> versus the US dollar on August 28.</p><p>A weakening peso means imports of commodities like oil become more expensive, which can push up inflation. </p><p>On the other hand, a stronger dollar may initially benefit families of overseas Filipino workers, as they can get more pesos for every dollar sent. But inflation may also eat into their purchasing power.</p><div><em>More details to follow. </em></div><div><br/></div><div><em>    </em></div>
