MANILA -- The Visayas grid remains on Red and Yellow Alerts on Monday as more than 30 power plants are still on unscheduled shutdown.Energy Secretary Sharon Garin warned all Visayas stakeholders that the government will get to the bottom of the problem but will first prioritize bringing the stalled plants back online so the grid can return to normal.&quot;The Visayas power situation is unacceptable, and we are treating it with utmost urgency,&quot; Garin said.Aside from the generating plants, the DOE is also pushing the system operator, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, to execute ancillary contracts in order to ensure that no red alerts occur.&ldquo;Hindi dapat ang konsyumer ang paulit-ulit na mag-adjust dahil may problemang paulit-ulit namang di naaayos. We are applying the same urgency to transmission. It is not enough to have electricity available somewhere in the system. The grid must be able to move that electricity to where people need it,&quot; she said.DOE officials said the Visayas grid should return to normal by September 21, 2026, hoping major power plants will come online by then and other plants will resume normal operation after.
