MANILA — The Department on Health (DOH) said on Wednesday the downtrend in influenza-like illness (ILI) cases should not be a cause for concern.

Pababa po siya," he told reporters on Wednesday.

DOH recorded 1,218 ILI cases from December 22,2024 to January 4, lower than the 5,285 ILI cases logged from December 8 to 21 and 6,993 cases from November 24 to December 7,2024.

It said ILI cases reached as high as 5,000 in the first week of January 2024.

Individuals with ILI often experience cough, colds and fever.

DOH assured the public, explaining that ILIs often occur during the 'amihan' season.

"Actually, mga bandang November, nagsisimula na yan. Every year po ganoon po yung nangyayari tapos habang umiinit na po yung panahon, pagpasok ng Marso, Abrill, bumaba na po yung ating influenza-like illness," Domingo said.

DOH listed the top causes of ILIs in the Philippines based on data from last year.

6. Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV)

7. SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 virus)

DOH reminded the public to observe proper hygiene to avoid the spread of viruses.

Pag sinabi mag-hydrate, seven to eight glasses for adults. Maaaring mairita ang ating lalamunan at ilong," he explained.

Domingo said the total hospital bed and ICU bed utilization stayed at around 11 and 12 percent.

Mas mataas pa yung common cold o Rhinovirus," he added.
