LAGUNA — The town of Pakil in Laguna has been placed under a state of emergency due to a continued rise in dengue cases.

On Monday, the Sangguniang Bayan approved Mayor Vince Soriano’s request to declare a state of emergency to expedite the local government’s response in curbing the spread of dengue.

"Mapapabilis 'yung purchases namin ng mga additional na gamit katulad ng misting at fogging machines at saka 'yung mga chemicals na kailangan para sa paglaban sa mga lamok na may dala-dalang sakit na dengue,” Soriano said.

According to local government records, two children — aged 5 and 7 — have died from dengue. Five more individuals are currently recovering in the hospital.

From January to June 2, 2025, a total of 29 dengue cases were recorded in Pakil, most of whom are children.

"Sobrang bilis ng pag-shoot up noong kaso ng dengue nitong nakaraang 10 araw," the mayor added.

The local government is focusing its efforts on eight barangays with the highest numbers of dengue cases.
