MANILA - UP Manila, the Philippines’ premier health sciences institution, ranks in the top 7.9% of universities worldwide, according to the 2025 Global 2000 list released by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) on June 2.The university secured the 1,677th spot out of 21,462 institutions globally, reaffirming its status as the country’s highest-ranked university in this cycle. It is one of only two Philippine universities included in the list, alongside UP Diliman.UP Manila earned an overall score of 67.4, with notable strengths in graduate employability (ranked 1,047th globally) and research performance (1,607th). Regionally, it placed 646th among Asian universities, outperforming institutions such as Hainan Medical University (China), University of Peradeniya (Sri Lanka), and Kyorin University (Japan).<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/health-wellness/2024/10/9/up-manila-seeks-partners-to-commercialize-ampalaya-pill-for-diabetes-827">UP Manila seeks partners to commercialize ampalaya pill for diabetes</a></div>“This recognition is an inspiration for the UP Manila community to continue fulfilling our mandate to teach, create new knowledge, and serve the nation,” said Chancellor Michael Tee. In recent years, UP Manila has also broadened its research focus beyond clinical medicine to include emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, and digital health ecosystems, bolstering its reputation as a multidisciplinary academic leader.The university also strengthens its institutional profile through its stewardship of the National Institutes of Health and its operation of the Philippines General Hospital (PGH), the country’s largest tertiary government hospital.Its public health initiatives were especially prominent during the COVID-19 pandemic, notably through the Stop COVID Deaths webinar series, which earned international acclaim via the 2022 Gold Quill Award of Merit from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).This CWUR recognition follows UP Manila’s earlier distinction in March 2025, when it was ranked 479th globally by the U.S. News &amp; World Report Best Global Universities — the only Philippine institution included in that ranking.While U.S. News evaluates institutions based on 13 research performance indicators, CWUR’s methodology centers on four key pillars: education quality (25%), alumni employability (25%), faculty distinction (10%), and research output (40%).CWUR does not rely on surveys or self-reported data: instead, it uses seven objective indicators to assess institutions’ global standing.
