MANILA — The Commission of Population and Development says unwanted pregnancies with girls aged 10-14 years old is still rising.Speaking to Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, Ms. Mylin Mirasol Quiray, Information, Management and Communications Division chief of the Commission on Population and Development, said the rise is alarming.&quot;Ang 10 to 14 ‘no, ng ating mga kabataang Pilipino ay one teenage pregnancy is one teenage pregnancy too many,&quot; Quiray said.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/2/13/rising-teenage-pregnancy-among-young-teens-in-philippines-0821">Rising pregnancy among young teens in Philippines</a></div>&quot;Hindi pa handa ang kanilang katawan, naaalarma tayo dahil maaari ring abused itong mga kabataang babaeng ito dahil nga anecdotal data shows us or reveals also na maaaring may abuse dahil ang age of sexual consent sa ating bansa ngayon ay 16. So, sinasabi natin na napakaraming factors kapag nabubuntis ng maaga ang ating mga kabataan,&quot; she added.PSA data shows there are 138,697 births from women aged 10-19, and 3,560 of this is from women aged 10-14.&quot;Itong mga nabanggit nating datos ay live birth so ibig sabihin iyong mga nanganak ito, hindi lamang iyong pregnancy. Ang mga services at information against abuse, napakaimportante iyong alam ng ating mga kabataan how to protect themselves at the same time kailangan talaga ng social protection doon sa mga nabuntis na,&quot; Quiray said.&quot;At napakaimportante ng role ng participation ng ating mga kabataan para lumayo sa early sexual engagement and risky sexual behavior na maaaring mag-result into early pregnancy at hindi lamang early pregnancy at panganganak pero also HIV/AIDS at sexually transmitted infections,&quot; she said.
