Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News/File</div>MANILA -- COVID-19 cases in Quezon City have surged by more than 265% over the past three weeks, prompting local health authorities to intensify disease surveillance and public health measures, according to the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (QCESD).In an official statement on Sunday, July 5, the QCESD reported that confirmed infections rose sharply from 23 recorded between May 21 and June 10 to 84 logged from June 11 to July 1, 2026. This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city to 146 so far this year. <div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/health-science/2026/4/23/next-pandemic-is-inevitable-what-it-means-for-the-philippines-1400">Next pandemic is &#x27;inevitable&#x27;: What it means for the Philippines</a></div>“Muling nakapagtala ng pagtaas ng mga kaso ng COVID-19 sa Quezon City matapos tumaas ng 265.22% ang bilang ng mga kumpirmadong kaso sa loob lamang ng tatlong linggo,” the QCESD said.Data from the city’s surveillance system showed that District 4 accounted for the highest share of infections at 32.71%, followed by District 1 with 22.43%.Among barangays, Doña Imelda recorded the most cases with 11, while Culiat, Salvacion, Santa Teresita, Santo Cristo, Sauyo, Socorro, and Tandang Sora each logged four cases. Children aged 14 and below made up the largest proportion of infections at 30%, followed by individuals aged 25 to 29 and senior citizens aged 60 and above, both at 16%. More cases were also recorded among women, with 66 infections or 62%, compared to 41 cases or 38% among men.<div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/health-science/2026/5/8/hantavirus-not-like-covid-doctor-treating-patient-in-netherlands-0724">Hantavirus not like Covid: doctor treating patient in Netherlands</a></div>Authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation to quickly detect potential clustering of cases. “Patuloy ang case monitoring at disease surveillance upang mabantayan ang sitwasyon at agad na matukoy ang mga posibleng clustering o pagdami ng kaso,” the QCESD said.Amid the uptick, the division reiterated basic health protocols to curb transmission, including practicing proper cough etiquette, mask-wearing when symptomatic, regular handwashing, and staying home when ill. The QCESD also urged parents to seek immediate medical consultation for children showing respiratory symptoms, while advising older adults and those with weakened immune systems to consult early to prevent severe complications.
