Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News/File</div>MANILA — Despite the observed increase in COVID-19 cases in Quezon City, the City Health Office allayed the public&#x27;s concern and said there is no need for alarm. In just a span of two weeks, confirmed cases of the respiratory disease jumped from 23 to 84, marking an over 200% increase. Quezon City&#x27;s COVID tally has reached 146 for 2026. Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Dr. Rolly Cruz, head of the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division, said their announcement of a rise in cases should be perceived as a warning for the public to continue practicing health protocols as the SARSCoV virus remains in circulation. <div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/health-science/2026/7/5/quezon-city-logs-265-surge-in-covid-19-cases-in-3-weeks-2203">READ: Quezon City logs 265% surge in Covid-19 cases in 3 weeks</a></div>&quot;May COVID-19 pa rin kasi hindi naman talaga siya nawawala. At kailangan natin mag-iingat. Especially mga vulnerable population. Yung mga senior citizens at yung mga sobrang bata,&quot; he said. Districts 4 and 1 in Quezon City have noted the largest number in terms of infections. Cruz says this does not necessarily mean a cluster in these areas alone. Rather, these are districts where those who experience symptoms should actively seek consultation and testing. But even as infections slightly rise, Cruz says patients remain on the mild side of the disease spectrum. He adds that the figures represent only those who were tested. There may still be others who are ill but don&#x27;t know they have COVID.&quot;Kung hindi ka magpapatest, Sa isang nagre-report sa city, hindi ka ba bibilang? So, maraming ganun,&quot; Cruz said.Experts are advising the public, especially as the rainy season is usually coupled by a rise in influenza-like illnesses, to remain vigilant and continue to practice health standards of handwashing and masking when needed. &quot;Ang health protocol natin ay voluntary. Ibig sabihin voluntary kung ikaw ay may sintomas, inihikayat natin ikaw ay mag-wear ng face mask para hindi ka makahawa,&quot; Cruz said. In a statement, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said they will continue to remain vigilant and monitor trends in infections. &quot;We assure the public that the city government is closely monitoring these developments. While there has been an increase in cases, they still represent a very small percentage of our total population. We are not seeing any clustering of cases, and all reported infections have been mild and isolated,&quot; Belmonte said. Currently, samples from patients are being submitted for genome sequencing to determine the variant that is currently circulating in the community.
