Maria Tan, ABS-CBN NewsMANILA -- The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday said it does not intend to file disbarment cases against Vice President Sara Duterte, saying that it would leave calls for the cancellation of the second-in-command's lawyer's license to the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).

"Hindi po kami maghahain ng partikular na kaso dahil ang IBP po mas nakakaalam at aakyat din po yan sa Korte Suprema," DOJ Undersecretary Jesse Andress said in a press conference.

"Pinapabayaan po natin ang IBP to investigate and if they need to elevate it before the Supreme Court, let it take the national course of the law," he said.

Presidential Adviser on Poverty Alleviation and disbarred lawyer Larry Gadon earlier filed a letter to the Supreme Court, urging magistrates to start a motu propio disbarment proceeding against Duterte after she divulged a kill plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and some of his relatives.

Aside from Gadon's letter, the high court had received an anonymous letter earlier this month seeking Duterte's disbarment after she threatened to exhume the remains for former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. from the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
