The International Criminal Court may choose not to announce the issuance of an arrest warrant in its probe against alleged crimes against humanity committed during the Duterte administration’s war on drugs, a lawyer said Friday.ICC assistant to counsel Maria Kristina Conti said keeping secret the issuance of an ICC warrant is possible until it is actually served against the accused.“Pwedeng mag announce ang ICC na nahuli na namin ang wanted sa Pilipinas at enroute sa The Hague. ‘Yun ang pinakaimportante,” she told TeleRadyo Serbisyo.She added that she is unsure if a warrant will be issued this month or early next year.Aside from Duterte, an ICC document has named Sen. Ronald Dela Rosa, Duterte&#x27;s police chief who implemented the drug war, along with former Philippine National Police officials Oscar Albayalde, Edilberto Leonardo, Eleazar Mata, and former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief, now Northern Luzon commander, Maj. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., as &quot;suspects”.Conti said the renewed ICC call for more witnesses on crimes against humanity including torture, murder and sexual abuse committed during the Duterte war on drugs shows it is stepping up its investigation.Thousands of suspected drug pushers and addicts were killed in police operations under Duterte&#x27;s anti-illegal drugs campaign.“Standing na ‘yan [call for witnesses] pero to make it public, it means medyo matindihan na ang paghahanap ng ebidensya. Kailangang makarating sa kanila ang ebidensya,” she said.The Philippine government has taken the position that it will no longer engage the ICC, which the Philippines left in 2019, and is no longer bound to assist the court. It has also said it will not stop the ICC in setting up interviews and gathering data on the so-called drug war, where at least 6,000 supposed drug personalities were killed in operations acknowledged by law enforcement.
