MANILA –– The driver involved in the Katipunan road crash had three previous cases of driving with an overloaded truck, an investigation on the incident at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) revealed on Tuesday.

The Dec. 5 road crash involved a truck, a bus, several cars, and 16 motorcycles. It left four people dead and 30 others injured. The truck was carrying sugar products, LTO said.

Based on the agency’s probe, the truck driver was previously apprehended in December 2023, January 2022, and December 2021. The driver was on voard the same truck which only had a 24,000-kilog capacity, said the LTO.

In a chance interview with reporters, Vigor expressed his disappointment to the truck owner since he and the lawyer were unable to answer questions on the hearing.

PCapt. Napoleon Cabigon, commander of the Quezon City Police District Traffic Sector 3, earlier said that the truck driver had experienced brake issues before reaching the Aurora Boulevard flyover in Katipunan Avenue, where the collision occurred.
