Photo courtesy Migrante International"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">OFW group Migrante International and the Task Force to Save Mary Jane hold a candle lighting at the St. Anthony de Padua Shrine on November 24, 2024 to pray for the safe return of Mary Jane Veloso to the Philippines. <em>Photo courtesy Migrante International</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The National Union of People’s Lawyers has asked the Philippine government to grant immediate access to the family and lawyers of Mary Jane Veloso once she is back in the Philippines.</p><p>“We expect the Philippine government in this regard to give immediate, full and unhindered access to her family and accord her right to privately confer with her Philippine lawyers fortwith,” the NUPL said in a statement.</p><p>The NUPL said it is pleased that the process of Veloso’s transfer from Indonesia to the Philippines is already unfolding, following the transfer of Veloso from Yogyakarta to Jakarta.</p><p>“We are waiting with excitement and anticipation of seeing and hugging as well as conferring with her in person right here in our homeland when she sets foot here,” the NUPL said.</p><p>Indonesia&#x27;s Deputy Coordinator of Immigration and Corrections Nyoman Gede Surya Mataram, in a press conference Monday, confirmed Veloso will head home to the Philippines on Wednesday, Dec. 18.</p><p>Veloso — who was arrested and sentenced to death in 2010 for carrying 2.6 kilograms of heroin in her luggage — was transferred to a facility in Jakarta from Yogyakarta over the weekend.</p><p>The move is an expected precursor to Veloso’s flight back to the Philippines after 14 years of incarceration in Indonesia.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2024/11/22/lawyer-calls-for-mary-jane-veloso-repatriation-before-christmas-1355">READ: Lawyer calls for Mary Jane Veloso repatriation before Christmas</a></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RyRR1zC4kSQ?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
