Harlene Delgado, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — An organization of military reservists on Saturday said it aims to recruit one million personnel into the reserve force in the next three years to help with national defense and disaster response.</p><p>The Association of Reservists and Reservists Administrators of the Philippines Incorporated, which conducted its first general assembly on Saturday, announced the goal at a national convention for reservists organized by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.</p><p>&quot;Gusto naming ipaglaban at isulong ang reservists ng Pilipinas, padamihin and I&#x27;m calling also our able and patriotic and nationalistic Filipinos to heed the call of nationalism para po maging reservists, para maipagtanggol or tulungan ang ating bansa sa mga kalamidad din,&quot; reservist Lt. Col. Michael &quot;Mikee&quot; Romero, who is also 1-PACMAN party-list representative at the House, said.</p><p>(We want to fight for and promote reservists in the Philippines, grow the ranks. And I’m also calling on all able and patriotic and nationalistic Filipinos to heed the call to be reservists to help defend the country and to help out during calamities)</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/2024/10/19/charo-santos-concio-is-now-a-philippines-air-force-reservist-1902">READ: Charo Santos-Concio is now a Philippine Air Force reservist</a></div><p>There are around 1.6 million reservists in the country including the more than 100,000 ready reserve personnel and the retired and standby reserve units.</p><p>&quot;Any time ma-mobilize sila by approval of the President and Congress, puwede silang gamitin sa anumang crisis,&quot; Maj. Gen. Alejandro Nacnac, AFP deputy chief of staff for reservists and retiree affairs,” said.</p><p>(Any time they are mobilized with the approval of the President and Congress, they can be deployed for any crisis)</p><p>He said reservists can also be activated through selective mobilization, which only needs presidential approval.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/2024/6/4/nadia-montenegro-is-now-a-navy-reservist-at-52-1730">READ: Nadia Montenegro is now a Navy reservist at 52</a></div><p>Nacnac underscored the missions of reservists, which include base expansion of the AFP, partners for civic action programs and socio-economic activities, disaster and rescue operations and sources of utilities for the public during crisis.</p><p>Thousands of reservists from across the country joined the national convention on Saturday, which Nacnac said was held to engage reservists and update them on developments in the reserve force.</p>
