MANILA - Workers swept streets clean in Quezon City early Wednesday, as New Year venues emptied after midnight.

The Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) was one of the key places where the New Year Countdown event was held, and park maintenance staff worked overnight to clear the trash and debris from said event.

Joseph Ventuso, a park maintenance staff, shared that their management assigned graveyard cleaners to the event.

“Night shift po sila, kaya linis po agad pagka-pack up nung concert,” Ventuso said.

The QC local government had earlier banned the use of single-use plastic bottles, and Ventuso said that based on his observation, the campaign was quite effective in limiting waste.

“Medyo nabawasan na nga po kasi pinagbabawal na po,” he said.

However, there were still a few who continued to loiter around the park.

“‘Yung iba akala nila nasa bahay lang sila--may katulong ganon. Kami pa rin po ang maglilinis,” Ventuso said.

Elsewhere in Quezon City, sweepers were also busy cleaning up their areas. Trash was seen piled up in an area beside the street.

In Manila, used firecrackers were still in the middle of some of the roads around 9 in the morning on New Year’s Day. Two barangay maintenance staff were seen sweeping the roads.
