<div><br/></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA -- Marikina Second District Rep. Stella Quimbo will be the acting chairperson of the House Committee on Appropriations, after AKO BICOL party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co “stepped down” from heading the panel, according to House Secretary General Reginald Velasco.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/1/13/sandro-marcos-moves-to-declare-vacant-position-of-appropriations-panel-chairperson-1634">Co removed as House Appropriations Committee chairperson</a></div><p>Velasco said House rules provide that “in case of a vacancy in the position of committee chairperson by reason of death, resignation, permanent disability, or removal, the vacancy shall also be filled by the Member next in succession in the committee list.”</p><p>Quimbo was the Senior Vice Chairperson of the House Committee on Appropriations.</p><p>“She&#x27;s member number two… in terms of seniority. Pero acting lang &#x27;yun. Because if the House would like to have a Chairman, then it has to be presented to the plenary for approval,” Velasco told the media on Tuesday.</p><div><iframe width="1100" height="619" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/oY4Z_gw5BD8" title="Sandro Marcos moves to declare vacant position of appropriations panel chairperson" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>During Monday’s House plenary session, House Senior Deputy Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte First District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos moved to declare the position of House Committee on Appropriations Chairperson vacant. With no objections, the motion was carried.</p><p>Co later said he “stepped down” from the post due to “pressing health concerns”.</p><p>Under the House Rules, the acting chairperson “shall perform the duties of the chairperson only until such time that a new chairperson is chosen and assumes office”.</p>
