MANILA — The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has reported a record-high 163,482 passengers on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

This includes both arriving and departing passengers on domestic and international flights in all terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines said the figure is the highest in a year and likely is one of the highest in history. MIAA is still collating the data, but Ines said they have not reach the 160,000 mark in years.

Ines attributed this to the holiday break where many return back to Manila or to their provinces. He added there is a resurgence of travel demand and air travel in particular.

The latest figure includes 40,155 international arrival, 40,916 international departure, 44,101 domestic arrival, and 38,310 domestic departure. The highest number are those coming from the provinces and returning to Metro Manila.

On January 1, 2025, there were 136,990 passengers at NAIA. Then it significantly rose up to 154,757 the next day, 157,336 passengers by January 3, and 159,266 on January 4.

The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), which took over the operations of NAIA from MIAA last September 2025 has reported a record high 50.1 million passengers for the whole year of 2024.

This is higher tan the pre-pandemic year 2019. NNIC attributed this growth to the Filipinos’ confidence in air travel and a sign of recovery for the tourism sector.
