MANILA — Former Cainta mayor Mon Ilagan has been named as an undersecretary in the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Communications Secretary Dave Gomez said on Monday.Gomez, however, belied reports that the broadcaster-turned-politician has been designated to face reporters during Palace briefings.Social media posts claiming that Ilagan will replace Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro as Palace Press Officer is “fake news,” Gomez told ABS-CBN News in a text message.“He will not replace Usec Claire,” the Communications Secretary said.“Spox and Press Office Officer pa rin si Claire. Sa operations si Mon,” he said.Before his appointment to the PCO, Ilagan served as an assistant secretary in the Department of Transportation.He rose to fame as a journalist with ABS-CBN News, before he ran and served multiple terms as Cainta mayor.
