or 71 percent of Filipinos are optimistic that corrupt politicians and their accomplices in the flood control corruption scandal will be punished, a Pulse Asia survey released Wednesday suggested.</p><p>It also showed that almost all Filipinos or 90 percent agreed there was collusion among executive officials, lawmakers, and private contractors in the misuse of multibillion-peso flood relief funds.</p><p>The same opinion poll found that virtually all Filipinos believed that corruption in government was widespread and that most of them saw corruption as a normal part of Philippine politics.</p><p>The public sentiment toward the outcome of the investigations into the flood control scam is expected to add more pressure on the government to hold those responsible for fraud accountable.</p><p>On Monday, the pollster reported in a <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/13/pulse-asia-most-filipinos-critical-of-gov-t-response-to-inflation-corruption-1109">separate survey that most Filipinos were critical </a>of the government&#x27;s efforts to combat graft and corruption.</p><p>The surveys were released amid continuing public clamor for the arrest of corrupt personalities and for them to return the stolen money they acquired through the flood control scam.</p><p>They also came more than two months after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered an inquiry into possible corruption in flood control projects, which set off congressional probes into the scandal.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong></strong><strong>SENTIMENT TOWARD CONGRESSIONAL PROBES, ICI, OMBUDSMAN, PRESIDENT</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Wednesday&#x27;s survey suggested that the plurality view among Filipinos was that the investigations into anomalous flood control projects conducted by the Senate and the House of Representatives were &quot;likely to uncover the truth on the matter and to hold those involved accountable.&quot;</p><p>The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has yet to announce the resumption of its investigation into the flood control mess, while the House Infrastructure Committee has already <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/9/24/house-mega-panel-halts-probe-on-flood-control-mess-co-chair-1510">concluded</a> its hearings.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/14/bato-on-flood-control-probe-kalokohan-kapag-papunta-sa-duterte-1411">Bato on direction of flood control probe: &#x27;Kalokohan kapag papunta sa Duterte&#x27;</a></div><p>The Independent Commission for Infrastructure has begun its separate probe to help build cases against flood control personalities but it has been <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/15/ici-hindi-marunong-magtanong-case-buildup-analyst-may-duda-sa-confidential-hearings-0143">criticized for its secrecy</a>, which led to calls to make its hearings public.</p><p>Notably, the ICI was created by Marcos to also address worries that the congressional inquiries wouldn&#x27;t be productive because some of the lawmakers themselves were implicated in the scandal.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/13/-meron-na-ici-secures-evidence-vs-culprits-in-flood-control-corruption-1314">&#x27;Meron na&#x27;: ICI secures evidence vs culprits in flood control corruption</a></div><p>According to the Pulse Asia survey, the prevailing sentiment toward the ICI &quot;is one of ambivalence,&quot;
