LTO audits plates; cites delivery process as main issue

Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/File </div>MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) conducted an audit of its license plate inventory on Wednesday to assess the real situation in plate production and distribution across the country.“Kailangan muna nating i-audit &#x27;yung ating mga plaka. Ano ba yung totoong sitwasyon ng plaka natin na nagpo-produce, kailangan ma-audit din natin gaano karami &#x27;yung plaka natin at tska saan nagkakaroon ung problema para hindi makarating sa mga kababayan natin lalo na yung sa mga probinsya,” LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said.According to Lacanilao, there is no backlog or issue in plate production, but delays occur in the delivery process. Ang problema lang talaga natin &#x27;yung pagpapadala nung courier sakanila,&quot; he said.&quot;Kailangan nating siguraduhin &#x27;yung courier ma-implement kaagad at may capability na mapadala kaagad,&quot; he added.The LTO chief said that many plates are still awaiting delivery.&quot;Medyo marami pa rin po lalo na sa mga regional offices, kaya iikot din po ako sa regional offices para ma-sure na madeliver tska iche-check ko rin &#x27;yung mga napupunta sa mga dealers kung nadistribute na ba ng dealers o hinawakan na ba ng dealers,&quot; he said.The LTO is working on improving the courier delivery system to make door-to-door delivery the standard practice.&quot;Hangga&#x27;t maaari po, &#x27;yun po talaga ang dapat kasi para hindi masyadong mahirapan &#x27;yung mga kababayan natin sa pagkuha, kasi marami tayong kababayan na nagagalit na hindi nila makuha &#x27;yung plaka nila,&quot; he said.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/7/15/lto-says-license-plate-backlog-now-solved-1104">LTO says license plate backlog &#x27;wiped out&#x27;</a></div>The LTO also issued a show-cause order against an individual who was charging motorists to claim their license plates on their behalf.“Maganda &#x27;yung intensyon na tutulong siya para makuha &#x27;yung plaka sa LTO, pero ang problema kasi, kaya namin shinowcause order, naniningil siya sa mga kababayan natin,&quot; he said.&quot;Kasi may risk &#x27;yan e. Hindi naman siya authorized, pangalawa dala-dala mo &#x27;yung palaka e kung mawala &#x27;yung plaka? Kawawa yung tao,&quot; he added.
