MANILA -- President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos led the inauguration of Phase IV of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli (PBBM) Project on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in the revitalization of the historic Pasig River and Manila’s urban spaces.The newly completed section of the Pasig River Esplanade spans around 530 meters, connecting the Manila Central Post Office to Arroceros Forest Park, near cultural landmarks such as Quiapo, the Metropolitan Theater, and Manila City Hall. The development features walkways, bike lanes, viewing decks, bridges, and commercial spaces, all designed to be enjoyed freely by the public. It officially opens to the public on Monday, October 20.Phase IV connects with previous phases that stretch from Fort Santiago through Intramuros, Plaza Mexico, Liwasang Bonifacio, and down to Arroceros, completing a vital link in the riverside esplanade network.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2025/10/6/dost-launches-first-e-ferry-to-sail-the-pasig-river-by-november-1605">DOST launches first e-ferry to sail the Pasig river by November</a></div>The initiative falls under the broader Pasig River Urban Development (PRUD) program, which aims to balance urban renewal, ecological sustainability, heritage conservation, and economic growth.During the ceremony, President Marcos highlighted the multi-faceted purpose of the esplanade project, not only as infrastructure but also as a space for culture, community, health, and business.“We now see Phase Four of the Pasig River Urban Development Project,” Marcos said. “This 530-meter stretch behind Manila Central Post Office all the way to Arroceros Park is being reborn into a vibrant riverside space, featuring walkways, bike lanes, and commercial areas.” “Instagram, sa TikTok, sa Facebook, marami na pong nagpo-post na bumibisita rito,” the President noted, emphasizing the esplanade’s popularity among social media users.“For the foodies, there is a wide selection of classic Filipino merienda and global flavors to satisfy all your cravings. For the romantic at heart, you can enjoy a sunset stroll hand-in-hand with your significant other. He announced that 63 informal settler families were relocated to Naic, Cavite, where they now have access to better services and housing. “This inclusive development is done with that purpose at heart,” he said. “So as we continue to bring life back to Pasig River, we are also offering new ways to travel in a more sustainable way.”Marcos also highlighted the government’s commitment to sustainable transport.
