MANILA - Senator Joel Villanueva on Saturday lashed out at his critics amid controversies surrounding his alleged involvement in spurious flood control projects.He described the allegations against him as a &quot;set-up.&quot;“Hindi po ba ito set-up mga magulang at kapatid? Sa mga kinaaway at nilabanan  natin sa mga nakaraang panahon lalo na sa sindikato ng flood control, meron kayang nagagalit at pilit ginugulo ang storya ang totoong pangyayari para siguruhin na i set-up si Joel Villanueva,” he said.In a speech during the anniversary celebration of the Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide, Villanueva firmly denied any involvement in the accusations against at him.Villanueva said, “Kaya ko pong tingnan ang bawat isa sa inyo dito mga kapwa ko JIL. Mata sa mata, wala tayong flood control. Hindi tayo sangkot sa katiwalian.” His father, JIL founder Brother Eddie Villanueva, also spoke during the event and mentioned Senator Ronald &quot;Bato&quot; Dela Rosa, expressing gratitude for defending his son.“Sabihin mo, kung humingi sayo ng flood control project, mag reresign ako bilang senador. Sino may sabi? Born again ba? Hindi. Evangelical ba? Hindi. Ilang taon lang nakasama ni Joel sa Senado si Senator Ronald Bato tumayo, nanindigan. Hindi pa ako nakakapag pasalamat sa kanya.” said Bro. EddieHe likewise thanked Senator Robin Padilla for his support.Bro. Eddie said, “Si Senador Robin Padilla na isang Muslim nung makilala niya si Joel, yung pagkatao ni Joel, sinabi niya handang-handa siyang ipagtanggol kahit kanino dito sa mga false accusations kay Joel.” The Villanueva patriarch expressed confidence that his son Joel would overcome the allegations being hurled against him.
