Loreto Amante, budget sponsor for the Department of Science and Technology, said only 10 weather radars were operational after some had been damaged by storms.</p><p>A radar system in Catanduanes is one of the systems damaged by a recent typhoon and is now being repaired.</p><p>Amante, who is also vice chair of the House Committee on Appropriations, said he hoped that other weather radars could be repaired next year.</p><p>He noted that each radar system costs around P250 million and that the government would need to allocate around P5 billion to replace all radars.</p><p>&quot;What is P5 billion kung ang nakasalalay naman po ay ‘yun pong kasiguraduhan ng serbisyo ng ating PAGASA,&quot; the lawmaker said during the budget deliberation at the House of Representatives.</p><p>(What is P5 billion if it will help ensure quality service by PAGASA)</p><p>Amante said that they were proposing a P30-billion budget for DOST for next year to bolster its disaster preparedness initiatives.</p><p>He stressed that a limited budget could hinder the development of technologies being used to assess weather disturbances and their possible threat to communities.</p><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO: </strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_z2gU8A4lZE?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><div><strong></strong></div>
