Vice President Sara Duterte visited Bogo City and Medellin in Cebu province following the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Tuesday night.Duterte personally extended her sympathies to the families of those who died in the quake.“Pinapaabot namin yung pakikiramay namin sa mga pamilya nung mga namatayan at pinapaabot rin namin yung aming pagsuporta sa mga apektado noong yung mga nasira ang mga bahay at merong mga nasira at mga kagamitan,” she said in a chance interview in Cebu Thursday, October 2.In the videos provided by her office, the vice president was seen visiting patients outside a hospital, condoling with families of victims and talking with rescuers.Duterte underscored the need to immediately restore necessities such as power and water supplies.“Lahat ng mga areas ngayon walang kuryente. So hindi makapagbukas ang mga negosyo at hindi rin makabalik ang mga tao sa mga bahay,” she said.“Pangalawa ma&#x27;am, &#x27;yung tubig, dahil walang kuryente ay wala din tubig. So yan yung dalawa sa pinaka kailangan nila ngayon,” Duterte added.The Vice President also emphasized the importance of providing psychosocial support to the victims.“Marami sa kanila ang bigla na lang umiyak at marami sa kanila ang nagsasabi na, hindi nila alam kung ano ang bigla nangyari. So dapat meron stress debriefing yung mga tao para mailabas nila yung mganararamdaman nila at takot nila,” she noted.Duterte also noted the need to assess the structural integrity of houses and other buildings to prevent further damage.“Turuan yung mga tao paano mag-assess sa mga bahay nila, kung structurally sound pa ba ‘yung bahay, o kailangan ayusin para hindi siya maapektuhan sa mga aftershocks dahil napakalakas din ‘yung mga aftershock,” she stated.Duterte’s office has distributed food packs, potable water, hygiene kits, and other non-food essentials to affected families in Medellin, San Remigio, Bogo, Tabuelan, and Tabogon.It said Duterte has directed the OVP satellite offices in Panay-Negros Islands and Eastern Visayas to augment in the relief operations and manpower once needed.
