<p>MANILA (UPDATED) - The children of businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang have filed their counter-affidavits in the murder and serious illegal detention with kidnapping complaints they are facing before the Department of Justice in connection with the missing sabungeros case. </p><p>Ang’s children Elaine Ang-Yu, Eileen Ang-Galang and Richard, as well as son-in-law Christopher Yu were accompanied by lawyer Lorna Kapunan when they submitted their counter-affidavits.</p><p>In a statement sent by Kapunan, the children of Ang refuted the allegations of whistleblower Julie Patidongan and presented proof of their innocence.</p><p>Kapunan noted that the complaints against the respondents rested on the statements of Patidongan. </p><p>“Unfortunately, such testimony, baseless and uncorroborated as it is, clearly failed to establish the crimes charged with prima facie evidence with a reasonable certainty of conviction, which is the new quantum of evidence necessary for the case to proceed,” Kapunan said.</p><p>Kapunan also noted that Patidongan is a respondent in the case.</p><p>“His false narrative is nothing more than a desperate attempt to shift blame onto those who had no involvement whatsoever in the alleged crimes,” Kapunan said.</p><p>Kapunan also said the Ang family is confident that the truth and due process will prevail.</p><p>“While they, too, seek justice for the missing sabungeros, they also trust that the Department of Justice will see through the baseless accusations hurled against them, and dismiss any baseless claims intended only to mislead or evade accountability,” Kapunan said.</p><div><br/></div><div><br/></div><div><br/></div>
