The Commission on Elections is verifying information that 6 senatorial candidates in the 2025 midterm elections received campaign contributions from government contractors.Comelec Chairman George Garcia said it has finished reviewing 44,000 statements of contributions and expenditures for the 2022 polls and will finish reviewing another 42,000 SOCEs for the May 2025 midterm elections by the end of the week.&quot;Dito sa 2025 election, base sa inisyal na findings, meron 24 na public works contractor na nagbigay din sa mga kandidato, sa pagka-senador, partylist at district congressman,&quot; he said in a DZMM interview. &quot;Apat &#x27;yung nakita nila na tumakbo na kandidato for senators, merong 2 partylist, 1 national political party, isang kandidato sa pagka-kongresista ng distrito,&quot; he added. Garcia said some of the candidates who received campaign contributions from contractors won in the elections while others lost. &quot;Apat ang nanalong senador, 2 ang natalo...&#x27;Yung pagtatanggal sa mga nakaupo, nanalo ay wala na sa ating jurisdiction ng Comelec,&quot; he said. He declined to name the four, saying Comelec is still verifying if the 24 contributors are indeed public works contractors.Article 11 of the Omnibus Election Code prohibits contributions from “natural and juridical persons who hold contracts or sub-contracts to supply government with goods or services or to perform construction.”Ex-Senate President Chiz Escudero earlier <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/14/escudero-files-reply-at-comelec-over-p30-m-campaign-donation-from-gov-t-contractor-1955">confirmed he received P30 million</a> in campaign donations from government contractor Lawrence Lubiano, owner of Centerways Construction and Development. The latter, however, said the contribution came from his own pocket and not taxpayers&#x27; money.
