<p>MANILA — Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo said the en banc would review the new rules that the Sandiganbayan would draft to expedite the flood control mess cases to be filed by the Office of the Ombudsman.</p><p>In front of stakeholders at the SC’s Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations anniversary, Gesmundo addressed growing concerns from the public over the accountability of public officials on ghost and graft-ridden projects of the Department Public Works and Highways.</p><p>“For sure we will review immediately, see to it, implemented and properly drafted,” Gesmundo said.</p><p>Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen said the Supreme Court was working to make courts more efficient in their processes.</p><p>“Even before these flood control controversies have been happening, we have been priming the courts in order to address cases quicker and [with] more compassion,” Leonen said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/20/ombudsman-to-begin-preliminary-investigation-into-6-flood-control-projects-1858">Ombudsman to begin preliminary investigation into 6 flood control projects</a></div><p>Leonen said that the cases were not only expected to land in the Sandiganbayan, but at the Regional Trial Courts as well.</p><p>“The judiciary has to remain impartial, at the end of the day we have to see the evidence, and we are hoping that the cases are built up properly,” Leonen said. </p><div><a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/21/ombudsman-seeks-to-cut-case-delays-with-digitalization-1926">Ombudsman seeks to cut case delays with digitalization</a></div><p>Leonen added that because of its impartiality, the court cannot comment further on the issue.</p><p>Asked about the investigation of the court on projects of the DPWH with courts nationwide, Leonen said there were several projects funded by contractors “listed” but most of them have been built.</p><p>“And we will make sure that we are not shortchanged, we are doing our own due diligence,” Leonen said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/10/ombudsman-hopes-to-file-flood-control-cases-before-sandiganbayan-in-november-1513">Ombudsman hopes to file flood control cases before Sandiganbayan in November</a></div><div><br/></div><div><br/></div><div><iframe width="923" height="519" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/F5dGEdrwhRA" title="DILG chief Remulla expects at least 200 jailed from flood control scandal | ANC" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><iframe width="923" height="519" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cH57fQDHeyg" title="Ombudsman to begin preliminary into flood control projects | ANC" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>
