<p>President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday visited victims of the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit Cebu province, to oversee relief efforts and extend immediate assistance to affected residents.</p><p>The President went to Bogo City, close to the epicenter of the Sept. 30 powerful earthquake, where he inspected some of the heavily damaged structures and interacted with some of the victims.</p><p>He also inspected the collapsed housing units at SM Cares Village in Barangay Polambato and talked as well with affected families.</p><p>He later visited the Archdiocesan Shrine and Parish Church of St. Vicente Ferrer in Barangay Bungtod. The church sustained heavy damage during the earthquake. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/10/2/marcos-visits-town-hardest-hit-by-cebu-quake-1151"><strong>Marcos pledges P225-million aid, &#x27;tent city&#x27; in visit to quake-hit Cebu</strong></a></div><p>Marcos also visited the City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy in Barangay Cogon, which was also affected by the quake.</p><p>He went to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Barangay Taytayan, where he assured patients of immediate relief assistance. The hospital staff have put up makeshift wards at the parking lot to attend to the deluge of patients. </p><p>The President gave instructions on relief operations to the Cabinet officials who accompanied him, including Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Frasco and Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Guarin.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/2/marcos-to-ask-for-more-emergency-funds-after-successive-calamities-1952"><strong>Marcos to ask for more emergency funds after successive calamities </strong></a> </div><p>TENT CITY</p><p>The President has ordered a “tent city” to be put up in Bogo City to temporarily shelter residents who were displaced by the earthquake.</p><p>He expressed concern about the widespread infrastructure damage, which has made residents fearful of returning to damaged buildings, including evacuation centers.</p><p>“Minamadali na lang natin… para naman may masilungan sila dito. Dahil marami, tama rin naman, natatakot na bumalik sa building. So, that’s why ang proposal is the tent city.&quot;</p><p>The Chief Executive said the government would tap the Philippine Red Cross to deploy its medical field tents, which were used at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic as staging and isolation wards.</p><p>“Ang gagawin natin, kukuha tayo ng mga tent na malalaki at itatayo natin. Kagaya ng sinabi ko sa ating mga LGU executives, ito &#x27;yung mga tent ng Red Cross na ginamit noong COVID. At ito ay mabilis itayo at kahit umulan hindi problema.
