<div> </div>MANILA — A police officer has been formally charged for allegedly raping a female detainee inside the Noveleta Municipal Police Station in Cavite, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed Wednesday.According to PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño, the incident took place between the night of September 3 and 4 after the victim and her live-in partner had been arrested on a drug-related case.The suspect, who serves as the deputy chief of the station and holds the rank of Police Lieutenant, took her from detention and brought her to his office on the second floor of the station, where the alleged rape occurred.“Base po statement ng biktima na isang 34 years old, magmula po nung siya ay puntahan ng deputy chief of police noong gabi ng September 3 at umabot po ng September 4 ng umaga [nangyari] ang diumano ang panghahalay sa kanya,” Tuaño said.The victim was reportedly able to file a complaint through the Unified 911 system on September 18.Authorities immediately responded to the report the following day.“Kinabukasan, September 19, ito po ay inaksyunan ng NAPOLCIOM 4A officers at WCPD inspection sa kung saan ay ininterview po nila yung biktima,” Tuaño said.“Bilang aksyon po ng PNP, nasampahan ng kaso noong September 23 ng RA 8353 ito ‘yung Anti-Rape Law. At ito pong si suspek po natin ay kasalukuyang nasa restrictive custody sa Cavite Police Provincial Office.”Tuaño added that the victim, who still faces charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165), is set to be transferred from the Noveleta Municipal Police Station to a custodial facility either in General Trias or Cavite City for her safety.As part of standard procedure, the chief of the Noveleta Municipal Police Station has also been relieved from duty pending the results of the investigation.“Bilang patunay po ang zero tolerance na hindi po tino-tolerate ng pamunuan PNP ang mga pagkakamali ng kanyang tauhan,” Tuaño said.The PNP assured the public that it remains committed to upholding accountability and protecting the rights of individuals in custody.
