<div><br/></div><p>MANILA <strong>(UPDATE) </strong>—The number of fatalities due to the effects of Typhoon Uwan has jumped to 27, mostly due to landslides, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Wednesday morning.</p><p>In its latest update at 7:03 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, the agency said most casualties came from the mountainous Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)—including 3 from Mountain Province, 3 from Kalinga, 4 from Benguet, and 9 from Ifugao.</p><p>The complete breakdown is as follows: </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>REGION 2</strong></div><p>• Nueva Vizcaya – 3</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>CAR </strong></div><p>• Mountain Province – 3</p><p>• Kalinga – 3</p><p>• Benguet – 4 </p><p>• Ifugao – 9</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>REGION 5 </strong></div><p>• Catanduanes – 1</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>REGION VI </strong></div><p>• Capiz – 1</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>REGION VII</strong></div><p>• Samar – 1</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>REGION IX </strong></div><p>• Sulu – 1</p><div><br/></div><div><span style="background-color:transparent"><b>UNKNOWN PROVINCE </b></span></div><div><span style="background-color:transparent">• 1</span></div><div><br/></div><p>Meanwhile, two persons remain missing in CAR, while 36 were reported injured.</p><p>Uwan, with a footprint that spanned nearly the entire archipelago, slammed into the eastern seaboard as a super typhoon on Sunday evening, uprooting trees and swamping towns in its path.</p><p>Uwan is now outside the Philippine area of responsibility, but according to Office of Civil Defense Deputy Administrator Raffy Alejandro, it may re-enter on Wednesday as it makes landfall over the southwestern coast of Taiwan, likely weakening further but still capable of bringing strong winds and rains over the extreme northern part of Luzon.</p><p>Uwan struck just days after Typhoon Tino swept through the central Philippines, killing more than 200 people, based on the latest figures.</p>
