The group says it wants to push for integrity among accountants amid issue of flood control corruption. <em>Jekki Pascual, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span>MANILA — The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) has vowed to work with government and the private sector to stop corruption amid the flood control controversy where alleged dubious financial statements of contractor firms were signed by accountants.</div><p>At the sideline of the 80th PICPA Annual National Convention in Pasay City, PICPA President Gerard Sanvictores acknowledged that could be accountants who may have been involved in corrupt acts, especially in the ongoing floood control scandal.</p><p>“Inevitably accountants are involved. They signed off financial statements, they’re part of budget and so on and so forth,” Sanvictores told ABS-CBN News.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/10/3/dizon-wants-licenses-of-engineers-in-flood-control-mess-revoked-1234">Dizon asks PRC to revoke licenses of engineers, professionals linked to flood control anomalies</a></div><p>He said they want to help government improve the system as they also want to implement reforms in their group.</p><p>“We have to police ourselves as well. So we have to look at these people who may have been implicated by signing on dubious financial statements and so on,” he added.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/9/10/flood-control-scandal-harms-ph-business-reputation-biz-group-1911">Flood control scandal harms PH reputation among business community, foreign countries: PCCI</a></div><p>Sanvictores said they already attended hearings and are willing to join discussions on House Bill No. 4453 on the creation of an independent commission to investigate the misuse of funds for flood control and other infrastructure projects, as well as House Bill No. 5699 on the creation of the full-fledged Independent Commission Against Infrastructure Corruption.</p><p>“We did make a commitment to the Congress and saying we’re ready we want to do our share,” he said.</p><p>The PICPA president added that many accountants are now more cautious in its transactions or work because of the issue. And he hoped that will continue to happen so more accountants will do good for nation building.</p><p>“Now accountants will be more conscious about looking at budget, about projects. So many billboard coming out saying so on so forth projects, so much amount, but nobody takes an effort to really look at ‘ano ba talaga components ng budget na yan’,” he said.</p><p>The PICPA convention is timely as over 5,000 accountants gathered in Pasay for a three-day event. There are also hundreds more joining online. Many activities are lined up including seminars and technical trainings. One of topics of the convention is on integrity.</p><p>“Talk about integrity, merit, professionalism, action, and teamwork. It’s very important for us.
