MANILA — A protest rally was organized by various groups under the multi-sectoral alliance for the “One Katipunan Against Corruption.”Students from the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, and Miriam College joined forces to demand action against what they described as the government’s corrupt system.At around 5 p.m. on Monday, November 17, students from the participating universities marched toward Della Strada Parish along C5 Katipunan Road in Quezon City.Organizers said the demonstration aimed to show those in power that they would continue taking to the streets to demand accountability from officials who abuse their authority.Joaquin Buenaflor, University of the Philippines Diliman Student Council chairperson, said “Kami pong mga kabataan, kami dito sa One Katipunan Against Corruption ginagawa namin ito para panagutin ang lahat ng kurakot.”Attendees said the youth and future generations will be the ones to suffer if corruption in government remains unaddressed.Annika Torres, president of the Sanggunian ng mga mag-aaral ng Ateneo de Manila University “Kami po kasi ang magmamana ng ganitong klaseng sistema, ng ganitong klaseng lipunan. Kami po ay bumaha sa lansangan, pinaglalaban po namin ang kinabukas hindi lang ng aming mga sarili kundi pati din po ng aming mga mahal sa buhay, at ang mga komunidad.”Elisha Marielle Zantua, finance officer of the Sanggunian ng mga mag-aaral ng Miriam College “Ang aming katayuan ang edukasyon ay para sa lahat para maging pwersa ng pagbabago at alam naming hindi ito magiging isa, pangalawa at huling pagtitipon upang maging force of change.”
