<p>MANILA<strong> (2nd UPDATE)</strong> - President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Nicolas Torre III as the new general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Malacañang confirmed on Friday.</p><p>Torre replaced Procopio Lipana, the Palace said.</p><p>Torre was replaced as PNP chief this year after supposed disagreements with the National Police Commission, Marcos Jr earlier said.</p><div> </div><div><strong>&#x27;WELCOME ADDITION</strong></div><p>The MMDA welcomed Torre&#x27;s appointment. The agency said in a statement that it fully supports the decision of the President in his trust for Torre. &quot;Gen. Torre is a welcome addition to the MMDA family. I am sure he will be a big help to the agency,&quot; MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes said. The MMDA likewise extended its appreciation to outgoing General Manager Lipana, who served the MMDA for more than three years. &quot;The MMDA remains committed to continuing its mission of ensuring safe, efficient, and orderly mobility and development in Metro Manila with the appointment of Gen. Torre,&quot; said the agency.</p>
