Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/File </div>MANILA — A former police official tagged in the  supposed mishandling of the P6.7-billion drug haul in Manila in October 2022 has surrendered, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Tuesday.Former PNP Deputy Chief for Operations PLtGen. Benjamin Santos turned himself in to the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) upon his arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport before dawn, PNP spokesperson BGen. Jean Fajardo said. Santos returned to the Philippines from Singapore, said CIDG chief PBGen. Nicolas Torre III. &quot;Retired Gen. Santos last week sent surrender feelers, actually surrender feelers and request for assistance para sa kanyang pag-post ng bail. So 7 silang at large na natitira,” he said. “They already have hold departure order from the court so the immigration will block their exit kung sila ay mag-attempt na lumabas ng bansa,” Torre added. The case stemmed from a police operation in October 2022 when PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) operatives arrested an alleged drug pusher in a buy bust, who later led the cops to an establishment in Manila where 990 kilos of shabu were recovered.The establishment was later found to be owned by PMSgt. Rodolfo Mayo Jr., who served as an intelligence officer for the PNP Drug Enforcement Group.The case became even more controversial due to an alleged attempt by several police officers to save Mayo.<div> </div>
