Bayan Muna Party-list officials have urged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday to investigate the alleged red-tagging campaign against them.

Bayan Muna Chairperson Atty. Neri Colmenares and Atty. Kristina Conti submitted their written letter to the commission on the same day.

“There has to be a concerted effort to pin down perpetrators, especially if there is a strong notion that this red-tagging and defamation campaign is sponsored by someone or something powerful such as the state," Bayan Muna said.

“Ang aming pagtingin sa Bayan Muna ang dahilan ng red-tagging at para patahimikin ang mga party-list na nagsasalita at nagko-condemn sa kung anumang abuso sa gobyerno. Ayaw nila kasi siyempreng makaupo kami diyan. Pero siyempre checks-and-balance yan. Kaya dapat lang tuligsain niya ang anumang mali,” Colmenares said.

Bayan Muna believe that they have been subjected to a massive and nationwide black propaganda since the start of campaign period.

Colmenares in their letter cited red-tagging incidents against Bayan Muna in Cubao, Quezon City; Taytay, Rizal; Cotabato City; Iloilo City; and Tacloban City.

“Exercise siya ng freedom of expression namin na mag-critize sa gobyerno kung may kurapsyon bibirahin namin yan, kaya maraming nagalit sa amin na mga abusadong officials dahil sa ine-expose namin yan,” Colmeneres said.
