<p>MANILA —The Palace on Sunday maintained that former President Rodrigo Duterte&#x27;s March 11 arrest based on an International Criminal Court warrant was lawful. </p><p>Sen. Ronald &quot;Bato&quot; dela Rosa, in a speech at a prayer rally at the Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila on Saturday, claimed that the Marcos Jr. administration illegally arrested the former president since the Philippines left the ICC in 2019.</p><p>The ICC has retained jurisdiction for alleged crimes against humanity reported before the country&#x27;s exit from the court, a move prompted by its inquiry into the situation in the Philippines.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/3/15/dela-rosa-blasts-marcos-jr-in-prayer-rally-for-duterte-0038">Dela Rosa blasts Marcos Jr. in prayer rally for Duterte</a></div><p>Palace press officer Claire Castro responded to Dela Rosa&#x27;s latest accusation, saying that a domestic law — Republic Act No. 9851 — was followed for Duterte&#x27;s arrest.</p><p>The Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and Other Crimes Against Humanity penalizes crimes against International Humanitarian Law, genocide, and other crimes against humanity.</p><p>Duterte stands accused of the crime against humanity of murder over his years-long campaign against drug users and dealers that rights groups said killed thousands.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/3/15/-flight-risk-duterte-may-apply-for-interim-release-lawyer-says-1818">&#x27;Flight-risk&#x27; Duterte may apply for interim release, lawyer says</a></div><p>&quot;Wala tayong magagawa sa kanyang sasabihin... siyempre &#x27;yan ang sasabihin niya &#x27;yan.
