<p>MANILA — News anchor-turned-politician Erwin Tulfo was proclaimed a senator on Saturday after garnering over 17 million votes in the midterm polls, placing him 4th among the 12 winning senatorial candidates.</p><p>Erwin is the brother of incumbent Sen. Raffy Tulfo, who was also a topnotcher in the 2022 elections, ranking third. </p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/05/10/22/halalan2022-raffy-tulfo-happy-to-be-in-3rd-place">#Halalan2022: Raffy Tulfo &#x27;happy&#x27; to be in 3rd place, vows to be a &#x27;working senator&#x27;</a></div><p>In his speech, Tulfo espoused &quot;national unity,&quot; calling it &quot;the foundation of a strong and resilient nation.&quot;</p><p>&quot;It is what binds the rich and the poor, the young and the old, the peope from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It is what enables progress, justice and peace,&quot; he said.</p><p>The new senator previously served as House representative of their family&#x27;s party-list ACT-CIS. </p><p>He was also a former Social Welfare secretary of the Marcos administration but his appointment was eventually blocked by the Commission on Appointments due to citizenship issue. </p><p>The Tulfo brothers will be among the 4 pairs of siblings to serve in the upcoming Senate. The 3 others are Sen. Pia Cayetano and Sen Alan Peter Cayetano; Sen. JV Ejercito and Sen. Jinggoy Estrada; and Sen. Mark Villar and Sen.
