He said this indicates voters are choosing open and good governance now.</p><p>He added that the voting was not merely a vote for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. or for former President Rodrigo Duterte, but he thinks it was the people’s vote for change and accountability.</p><p>“What came out of the polls was extraordinary. What came out of the local elections was extraordinary. I have a different view. It was not a binary elections. It was not one family or the other. It is not about the current president versus the family of the former. Every dynasty has one common feature- they stay too long, they govern too much, and they held everything in closed doors. More than ever, we need local governance,” he added.</p><p>Remulla said open governance is needed to be implemented by local government units. He admitted that in his decades of experience as a local executive official in Cavite, open governance was not the priority of many local officials as it affects government operations. But said, that should changed now.</p><p>“Isa sa mga pinakamalaking leksyon na natutunan ko ay basta open governance, ayaw na ayaw ng local government yan… That’s why we’re here, we need open governance,” he added.</p><p>Remulla said last Monday’s elections should urge officials to push through with better governance for a more open, transparent, participatory and accountable government.</p>
