<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17501430229111750143019651.jpeg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">BRP Andres Bonifacio (PS17) and JS SAMIDARE (DD 106) sail in formation during the 5th Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity on December 6 in the West Philippine Sea. <em>Photo by SSg Amagan/PAOAFP </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Philippine Navy denied the alleged “coordinated air and sea patrols” of China&#x27;s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theater Command during the recent bilateral maritime cooperative activity (BMCA) between the Philippines and Japan on June 14, Saturday.</p><p>Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, Philippine Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, explained that the Southern Theater Command does not engage with coercive or aggressive actions when the Philippines conducts a maritime activity with its partner nations, but it spreads false information that it conducted patrols in the vicinity of the maritime domain after the activity. </p><p>&quot;What we have noticed is after the activity, they would come up with malign influence or fake news stating that they have conducted patrols in the vicinity of our maritime domain,” said Trinidad in a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Tuesday.</p><p>“Reports like these are mere attempts at misinformation, disinformation and malinformation to shape the internal and domestic narrative of the Chinese Communist Party’s illegal claims in our maritime domains,” he added.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/1/afp-calls-out-china-state-owned-media-for-propaganda-video-on-brawner-1238">AFP calls out China state-owned media for ‘propaganda’ video on Brawner</a></div><p>In a statement, PLA Southern Theater Command spokesperson Senior Colonel Tian Junli said that the command organized a joint sea and air patrol in the South China Sea on Saturday, claiming that “any military activities that stir up trouble or create flashpoints” in the said waters are “fully under control.”</p><p>Trinidad said that they monitored the continued illegal presence of PLA Navy and China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels in the Philippines’ maritime zones, specifically in Bajo de Masinloc, Sabina or Escoda Shoal, Pag-asa Island, and Ayungin Shoal.</p><p>“Last June 15, two PLA Navy warships and two CCG ships were monitored in the vicinity of Bajo de Masinloc. On the 15th, two CCG ships launched and recovered RHIBs [rigid hull inflatable boats] in Ayungin Shoal, and another PLAN warship was spotted in the vicinity of Sabina Shoal,” Trinidad noted.</p><p>The official confirmed that one PLA Navy warship tailed the Philippine Navy’s BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG06) and the Japanese Self-Defense Force’s JS Takanami (DDG110) during the BMCA in the West Philippine Sea.</p><p>The Chinese vessel even launched and recovered aerial drones, according to Trinidad.</p><p>Despite the presence of the PLA Navy, Trinidad said the BMCA between Manila and Tokyo was safely and successfully conducted.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Navy official emphasized anew that China’s maritime forces must leave the Philippines’ maritime zones.</p><p>Trinidad was reacting to Tian’s statement that the Philippines “has been courting countries outside the region to conduct joint patrols, raising security risks in the South China Sea and undermining regional peace and stability.”</p><p>“On their claim that we are inviting foreign powers… that statement does not hold any water. On the other hand, they are the illegal presence in our maritime zones. They should leave—the PLAN and CCG—they should leave our maritime zones,” Trinidad stressed.</p><p>“Contingency plans are all plans. We do not have contingency plans for their misinformation, disinformation and malinformation. What we are doing now is we are countering them actively.
