MANILA – The Ombudsman has granted the petition of two officials tagged in the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte that sought to extend the period in filing their counter-affidavit on the matter, document showed on Thursday.

This is in relation to the criminal and administrative charges filed by Senator Imee Marcos.

In an order dated June 18, the Ombudsman said Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon and Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty have until June 27 to file their counter-affidavits.

“In the same order, Senator Marcos, as head of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, is given a period of 10 days from receipt of Fadullon and Ty's counter-affidavits to file a consolidated reply to all the respondents' counter-affidavits,” the release read.

The respondents were directed in early May to submit the counter-affidavit together with the affidavit of their witnesses, and other supporting documents within 10 days from the receipt of the Ombudsman’s order.

Government officials tagged in the former Philippine leader’s arrest have stood by the government's actions on the former President's arrest and denied "kidnapping" accusations by the Duterte camp.

Duterte, 80, faces a charge of crimes against humanity for murder over his "war on drugs" that claimed the lives of thousands of mostly poor men, often without proof they were linked to drugs.
