Grandpa who died in NLEX Marilao incident saved 2-year-old

MANILA — The two-year old survivor from the tragic incident along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Marilao, Bulacan on Wednesday was saved by his grandfather who later died that day. According to Marilao police chief PltCol. Eulogio Lamqui III, the 54-year-old man who was killed when a trailer truck hit the gantry of the Marilao Interchange was able to secure the safety of his granddaughter.“Bale nung nangyari po yung aksidente, niyakap po niya yung bata, nung bumaligtad po yung sasakyan yakap-yakap po nung matanda yung bata kaya naligtas at hindi siya gaanong nasugatan,” Lamqui told ABS-CBN News.Lamqui said seven members of the family from Parañaque were onboard their AUV going to Baguio City.“Galing po ng Parañaque ito ay pupunta po sila ng Baguio…pasyal sa mga relatives po,” Lamqui said.According to Lamqui, four out of six survivors remain in the hospital for treatment.Meantime, the 31-year-old truck driver who remains in detention at the Marilao police station asked for forgiveness from the family of the victims. He said he is willing to face the consequence of what happened.  ”Pasensiya na ho, hindi ko naman ginusto yun, pagbayaran na lang kung may kasalanan yun,” he said.He is facing multiple charges, according to Lamqui including reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
