Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</div>SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday dispelled criticisms over her recent overseas trips, saying that she is neither flying for holidays and vacations nor has she been using taxpayers’ money to fund her travels.Duterte gave the statement in response to criticisms of her frequent “personal” trips as the second-in-command has traveled overseas at least 5 times in the first half of 2025.“Kapag personal [trip], hindi ako gumagamit ng pera ng bayan… Hindi ibig sabihin na personal na lakad yan, holiday o pamamasyal yan,” she said.“Walang ginamit na pera ng gobyerno sa lakad na ito pero nagtratrabaho pa rin ako. Sa official, ginamit namin ang pera ng gobyerno para sa lakad na yun,” she said.“Hindi ko alam kung sinasadya nilang wag intindihin o bobo lang yung nasa administrasyon. I like to believe the latter,” she said.Duterte has traveled to the Netherlands in March, shortly after her father and former President Rodrigo Duterte was turned over to the International Criminal Court (ICC). She returned to the Hague in late May to celebrate her birthday with her family at the ICC detention center.The second-in-command has also traveled to Qatar, Malaysia and Australia in recent months to attend pro-Duterte rallies calling for the release of the Philippines’ 16th president.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/24/sara-duterte-back-in-ph-after-australia-trip-1451">READ: Sara Duterte back in PH after Australia trip</a></div>The Vice President clarified that Duterte supporters overseas usually shoulder the expenses for mounting rallies and other events, while she uses her personal funds to cover her airfare and hotel accommodations.When asked if some of her trips are based on locations where her father might be transferred should the ICC grant the former president’s request for interim release, the Vice President said: “Kung hindi sila bobo, maiintindihan nila yung ginagawa ko. Bobo sila kaya hindi nila naiintindihan.”“Kung mayroon silang gusto basahin doon, good luck,” she added.The Vice President confirmed that she will travel to Kuwait on August 8 to attend another gathering of Duterte supporters, while a scheduled trip to South Korea is also in the works.
