KJ Rosales, PPA Pool</div>MANILA (UPDATED) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has rejected the courtesy resignation of more Cabinet officials, the Palace said Tuesday.The following officials will keep their post in the Cabinet, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said.<ul><li>* Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.</li><li>* Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III</li><li>* Education Secretary Juan Edgardo &quot;Sonny&quot; Angara</li><li>* TESDA Director General Jose Francisco Benitez</li><li>* Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma</li><li>* Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian</li><li>* Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa</li><li>* Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac</li><li>* Science Secretary Renato Solidum Jr.</li><li>* Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco</li><li>* DICT Secretary Henry Aguda</li><li>* Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon</li><li>* DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan</li><li>* Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile</li><li>* MMDA Chairman Romando Artes</li><li>* MinDA Secretary Leo Tereso Magno</li><li>* Presidential Adviser on Mindanao Affairs Antonio Cerilles</li><li>* BIR Chief Romeo Lumagui Jr.</li><li>* Customs Chief Bienvenido Rubio</li><li>* National Treasurer Sharon Almanza</li></ul>“It is only the President who can decide if we performed up to par or we delivered on those promises or the expectations that he gave to us, announced to us at the beginning. And because of this, the President might have probably most likely determined that most of these whom he retained have performed up to par because otherwise he would surely have fired them,” Bersamin told Palace reporters.The Palace, meanwhile, clarified that the President has not accepted the courtesy resignation of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo.Malacañang earlier announced that Undersecretary Theresa Lazaro will replace Manalo, who was in turn named Permanent Philippine Representative to the United Nations.Bersamin said Manalo will continue his post as Foreign Affairs Secretary until his new appointment to the UN is formally confirmed. “When we made that announcement regarding the forthcoming designation of Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo to be the next permanent representative of the Philippines in the United Nations,” he said.“This will take effect most likely August 1, but because of the necessity for him to be confirmed before going over as permanent envoy to the United Nations, the President recognizes the designation to be considered as done only after his confirmation. In the meanwhile, he will remain as the Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Because there was a misunderstanding maybe about when he would really stop performing or discharging his duties as Secretary.”Bersamin likewise announced that the President has accepted the courtesy resignations of the following officials:-Presidential Commission on the Urban Poor Chairperson and CEO Meynardo Sabili -Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Terrence Calatrava -Presidential Assistant on Muslim Affairs Almarim TillahMarcos has terminated Presidential Adviser for Special Concerns Menandro Espineli, Bersamin said.“The four whom we have named today were probably those that the President, as of now, has determined that they have not delivered on their respective mandates. I will not delve into the details because they are of different categories. But let us assume that the President has good reasons, the best reasons, not to continue with their services as of this time,” Bersamin said.The President, meanwhile, has appointed Atty. Francis Edralin Lim as new Chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Commission. He replaces SEC Chairman Emilio Aquino, whose term will expire on June 5, 2025, Bersamin said.“His leadership is expected to strengthen investor confidence and further promote transparency, innovation, and inclusive growth in the Philippine financial sector,” The Executive Secretary added.Bersamin also announced that Marcos is currently “deliberating on his first historic appointment to the Supreme Court.”“We received the list from the JBC only recently, and he is poised to make his first appointment in that court,” he said.
