Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/File</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. on Monday welcomed the possible establishment of an ammunition production and storage facility in Subic Bay by the United States.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/4/21/-shared-adversity-new-weapons-as-philippine-us-forces-launch-balikatan-1135">&#x27;Shared adversity&#x27;, new weapons as Philippine, US forces launch &#x27;Balikatan&#x27;</a></div><p>US lawmakers are considering setting up the facility at the former American naval base in the Philippines, citing the “lack of a forward-staged ammunition manufacturing” site in the Indo-Pacific region. </p><p>In a report dated June 16, the US House Committee on Appropriations ordered the US Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of State and the International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) to assess the feasibility of establishing a joint ammunition production and storage facility in Subic Bay.</p><p>According to Teodoro, any production venture that will benefit the Philippines—not only in terms of resilience but also in employment and technological transfers—is encouraged. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/world/2025/5/9/us-military-to-immediately-start-removing-1-000-trans-troops-1133">US military to &#x27;immediately&#x27; start removing 1,000 trans troops</a></div><p>&quot;Any production site na makakatulong sa technological transfers, empleyo, revenue na dito gagawin is welcome, lalung-lalo na pag meron tayong sustainability, na magagamit natin ang produkto,” Teodoro told reporters in an interview in Makati City.</p><p>&quot;But on a purely commercial basis, ito ay defense industry na mag-eempleyo ng Pilipino sa special export processing zone,” he added. </p><p>However, Teodoro clarified that he has yet to see a formal proposal.</p><p>“Ngunit, that&#x27;s putting the cart before the horse. Ito’y naring ko lang sa media.
