Romeo Macapaz said the suspects were apprehended during an operation on July 5 along Alvarado Street. The CIDG Anti-Organized Crime Unit (AOCU), in coordination with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), confiscated 37 iPhone units and 263 iPad units, with an estimated total value of P3.5 million.“Naka-display ito sa warehouse nila. Anytime bibili ka, magsabi ka lang, nando’n sa kanila. Baka mas marami pang iba ang mayroon lang sa paligid natin,” Macapaz told reporters at Camp Crame.(These were displayed in their warehouse. There might be more being sold around us.)Macapaz said the gadgets were being sold at prices significantly lower than the original, but lacked clearance from the NTC and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).The CIDG chief said the operation was part of the police campaign to protect consumers from the dangers of substandard and counterfeit electronics, which pose safety hazards and violate intellectual property and trade regulations.“Siyempre, ‘pag nakita natin ang isang unit na substandard, maraming hazard ‘yon—siyempre sa health natin, sa safety natin.
