<p>MANILA — Senators Pia and Alan Peter Cayetano have filed a bill to prohibit online gambling in the Philippines, which they said is &quot;particularly addicting and dangerous, especially for the youth.&quot;</p><p>In her explanatory note to the bill, Sen. Cayetano said online gambling endangers the wellbeing of individuals and families and has &quot;become a breeding ground for serious criminal activity,&quot; including fraud, cybercrime, money laundering and human trafficking.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/1/gatchalian-wants-stiffer-regulations-for-online-gambling-1612"><strong>Gatchalian wants stiffer regulations for online gambling<br/></strong></a></div><div><strong>OPERATORS AND PROMOTERS FACE FINES, IMPRISONMENT</strong></div><p>The bill seeks to ban online gambling in all forms and penalizes their operators, enablers and users.</p><p>Operators of online gambling platforms face fines of at least P10 mllion and imprisonment of 10 years while users may be fined up to P100,000 and spend up to six months in prison.</p><p>People who advertise or promote online gambling will meanwhile face fines of at least P5 million and imprisonment of up to five years.</p><p>&quot;Through this measure, we aim to protect the wellbeing of Filipino families, uphold public morals, and preserve the trust and security of our digital and financial systems,&quot; Cayetano said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/7/17/pagcor-flags-influencers-engaged-in-promotion-of-illegal-online-casinos-1253"><strong>Pagcor flags influencers engaged in promotion of illegal online casinos<br/></strong></a></div><p>The bill, if passed into law, will create an Online Gambling Control Task Force under the Office of the President for enforcement of the ban.</p>
