MANILA - Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada on Friday said the Senate impeachment court will vote on the Supreme Court ruling effectively ending the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.  &quot;I am very much elated by the decision of the Supreme Court in declaring the impeachment case against Vice President Duterte as unconstitutional,&quot; Estrada said. &quot;Time and again, even before, based on my interviews before, I have said always that impeachment against any public official is very divisive for our country.&quot;&quot;Now that the Supreme Court has already decided, we can continue on our legislative work. We can file bills that will redound to the benefit of our people. We will vote on the decision of the Supreme Court. Of course, we will have to abide by the decision of this Supreme Court,&quot; Estrada said in a phone interview. Senate impeachment court spokesperson Regie Tongol, Senator Joel Villanueva, and Senator Imee Marcos had similar statements. &quot;We acknowledge the Supreme Court’s decision declaring the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte as unconstitutional. The Senate, sitting as an Impeachment Court, has always acted in deference to the Constitution and the rule of law. I was just told by a legal luminary that in this situation, we can disregard the SC decision. Nananawagan ako sa mga kapwa Senador na agad magsagawa ng caucus para talakayin ang desisyong binabalewala ang aming tungkulin sa Saligang Batas,&quot; Aquino said. Senator Risa Hontiveros expressed dismay then pointed out that the Supreme Court placed many requirements for impeachment that may make future attempts challenging.&quot;With all due respect, nakakadismaya itong biglaang pagpigil ng Korte Suprema sa pagdaraos ng impeachment trial laban kay VP Sara Duterte.  Maliwanag naman na sinabi ng Korte Suprema na hindi nila pinapawalang-sala si VP Duterte, at maaaring maifile ang impeachment complaint ulit next year.&quot;&quot;But we have many disturbing questions about the short-term and long-term consequences of this ruling. Isa sa ipinagtataka natin ay kung paano naviolate ang “one year bar rule” ngayong iisa lang naman ang kaso na iniakyat sa Senado, ayon na rin sa desisyon mismo ng Korte Suprema sa Gutierrez vs. House of Representatives (G.R. No. 193459). &quot;&quot;Bukod pa, nakakabahala na tila nagdagdag ng napakaraming requirement ang Korte Suprema para simulan ang proseso ng impeachment.
